New York, May 12. – ‘The right to marry should carry with it the right to unmarry or divorce. The simple statement: “We do not any longer love each other; we are unhappy, and we have agreed to separate” should satisfy every requirement of the civil statute.’
Richard D. Kathrens, author of ‘Let’s Civilize the Marriage Laws,’ preceded his lecture at the Hotel Astor last night before a fashionable audience, largely consisting of women and young girls, with the foregoing remark. All seemed to agree with the speaker’s remarks.
‘There is no justification, in law or morals, for the life duration of the marriage contract,’ he went on. ‘Divorce under existing conditions is a moral necessity.'”
