Reverend J G Wood (1827 – 1889) was a well-known parson-naturalist of the Victorian era. He wrote a great number of books concerning natural history and was extremely popular, with his book Common Objects of the Microscope selling 100,000 copies in a week.
This particular volume of the book was presented as a prize to a fifth grader at the Fanning School of Malpeque Bay, Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1891.
