“Dead Man May Be From This City

Aged Man Run Down and Killed by Taxicab in Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Nov. 8 – An aged man, whose name is believed to be Joseph Jones died in the City hospital Friday from injuries received Wednesday at 7:45 a.m., when he was struck by an automobile on Central square.

The automobile which knocked the old man down was owned by the Youngstown Transfer company. The driver of the machine took the injured man to the transfer office. Dr. Cunningham was called and ordered him removed to the hospital, Jones was not considered to be seriously injured. He seemed dazed however and it was thought best to have him under the charge of a doctor in the hospital. Friday morning early he became suddenly worse and died a few hours later.

When picked up the old man said his name was Joseph Jones and that he lived on Union street. Later, however, those who went to Union street in search of the family could find no trace of any one knowing Joseph Jones in that neighborhood.

The unfortunate was about 65 years of age, was rather short and heavy. He had gray hair and mustache. He wore a black suit, red knit sweater and a black and white checked cap. All his clothing was worn to the point of shabbiness. In his pockets were several Youngstown and New Castle addresses leading to the belief that he may be from that city. Most of the names were of Welsh residents.

When injured several Leslie’s Magazine receipts and a book entitled ‘The World Wonderful and Book of the Times’ were found in his possession showing that he may have been a book agent or canvasser.

He said that he married a widow named Mary Miller.”
